Mobile Golf Score and Stats Tracked at Colony West

Today I had a chance to play a round with my golfing buddy Paul. We reserved a tee time at Colony West in Tamarac at 8:00 am. By 8:15 am the temperature on the course was a steamy 91 degrees. That didn't bother me because I was anxious to test out a cool new mobile golfing application.

I use a Blackberry as a personal organizer and email communicator to help me stay focused in my professional life. I am a Search Engine Marketing consultant so having to keep in touch with my clients is a necessity. I regularly search for cool applications to download onto my Blackberry that helps me keep track of important information, Web sites, and other things..

The other day I found a great tool for keeping track of my golf scores and stats while on the course. Check out, Wireless18.com. The benefits of using this mobile application are numerous. For one thing I can upload or "post" my scores and stats to the Web site. This allows me to track of my handicap as well.

Once downloaded I found it simple to use. I started up the program as was quickly downloading all the courses in the zip code that I searched. Once I found the course that I played at, I was able to download the course hole distances and pars.

On the course, while playing, I turned to my Blackberry to quickly add stats such as, fairways hit, greens in regulations, chips, sand shots, sand saves, and number of putts each hole.

I must have liked using the application so much that I took my mind off my game. Click here to see my public profile and stats.

Golf and the Metro Weather Radar

Planning a day on the course and checking the weather are two things that go hand in hand. Lightning and golfers are two things that should not go hand in hand. If you live in South Florida during the summer time, you know that one minute the skies can be clear, minutes later a hail storm can pass by, and after that it could be fine for the rest of the day.

I find the best tool to see up to the minute weather for any specific neighborhood is to visit Weather Underground before every round of golf. It literally can save you. Not only can you get a bird's eye view to pin point any rain clouds, but the radar will even point an arrow in the direction that the rain clouds are moving.

I find that when I look behind the counter at the pro shops I find some of them already looking at some sort of radar image. My opinion is that the best site to see the most detailed weather information is the Weather Underground because it offers so many ways to see the weather. From up to the minute lightning strikes to a way to view amateur personal weather stations in every neighborhood.

If you look closely at the the photo above, the little squares represent lightning strikes with in the past 20 minutes. If you were to zoom in at this time you would be able to see arrows that point the direction of the moving clouds.

Give it a try the next time you go out for a round.

A hot summers day at Jacaranda is better then any day at work.

Paul and I saw a break in the bad weather and headed to the course since we thought that the rain would hold up . In fact, the rain held up, therefore when we go out the course it was empty because many golfers anticipated the rain.

Well I am just going to get right into it. I suck. I need help. The only that I have going for me is that when I am suffering through a round, I do it consistently. My golf partner Paul has a lot of patience. I think that it is because he has played the game so long that he has probably played many rounds with hackers like me.

Don't get me wrong, there are days that I can't miss a fairway, but today I was totally off. It was not until the end of the round that Paul noticed that I am reaching for the ball during my setup. That is causing me to have a flat swing and that in turn causes me to slam a mean hook. Enough about that. I hope to practice my setup by standing a bit more over the ball.

This was the first time that I played Jacaranda Golf Club. Paul has played here many times before. We played the East Course, playing pin position 2 (although the sign said 3).

Both, the East and West Course were both redone and the greens were in great condition. If you are a local, then the best course that you can compare this to is Plantation Preserve. The cost for a non-member before 12pm ran us $40 per person plus tax. Not a bad price considering that Northerners would expect to pay double that this time of the year.

Defiantly a course that I look forward to play again.

The Woodlands Country Club Golf Hook-Up

Woodlands Country Club is a public country club located in Tamarac, Florida. I have played there in a tournament for the South Florida Boys and Girls Club.

I received the attached coupon from GolfTEC which allows anyone to play Woodlands for $29 anytime. That is a pretty good deal considering that most golf courses in the area charge different prices for different times of the day.

Just tell them ""GolfTEC" sent you and you will get the offer.
